"From Macao to Beijing by China's rivers. A voyage of peace and friendship."

We suggest the study of the Father Matteo Ricci's voyage, began in the 1583 and ended in the 1598.

The voyage was interrupted many times by long rests, caused by the well known historical events of his life. 

The route developed along the rivers and the canals that, in the past, were the inside connection more important in China, the fastest and the rightest one for heavy loads compared to the land transport.

The voyage by sea were advised against the Pirates and the unfriendly fleets of the enemies countries. 

In the writing of  Father Matteo Ricci are clearly expounded the characteristics of the voyage and the emotions felt to see the unknown country by the side of thats waterways.

The route cross important chinese cities. We list some of them in order by the itinerary: Zhaoqing, Guanzhou, Shaozhou, Nanchang, Nanjing, Suzhou, Tianjin.

This cities are rich in history, art, and in some cases with Ricci's  testimonies.

“Da Macao a Pechino sui fiumi della Cina - Un viaggio di pace e di amicizia”

Il progetto è finalizzato allo studio dei viaggi compiuti da Padre Matteo Ricci da Macao a Pechino, dal 1583 al 1598. Questo percorso si è interrotto più volte a seguito delle vicende occorse al missionario maceratese. Infatti sono occorse lunghe soste, anche di anni, ma queste sono state tappe fondamentali per la sua impresa.

Zhaoqing, Guanzhou, Shaozhou, Nanchang, Nanjing, Suzhou, Tianjin e Pechino, sono città che lo hanno ospitato e alcune conservano significative testimonianze del suo passaggio.

Tutte queste città, in quegli anni, erano collegate da vie d'acqua: fiumi, laghi e canali. Questa navigazione interna era preferita a quella marittima perché quest'ultima era soggetta all'insidia di pirati e di flotte nemiche. Inoltre il viaggiare in barca consentiva un sicuro ed efficiente trasporto delle merci e quindi dei numerosi bagagli dei missionari.

Negli scritti di Padre Matteo Ricci troviamo una accurata descrizione di questo tipo di viaggio, cogliamo la meraviglia e le emozioni per la scoperta di una civiltà che si rivelava dalle sponde dei corsi d'acqua.
